The Venkateswara Temple in the hill town of Tirumala at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh will close to visitors due to the coronavirus outbreak that has affected more than 160 people in India and killed three.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam which manages the affairs of the Sri Venkateswara temple in AP, has closed down the gates of Swamy Pushkarini, where several devotees take a holy dip.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Additional Executive Officer A V Dharma Reddy revealed that as part of anti-coronavirus campaign,  TTD has decided to close down the Swami Pushkarini ghat adjacent to Srivari temple from Thursday until further orders.

Since the chances of spread of covid-19 coronavirus was more with mass bathing by pilgrims in the Swamy Pushkarini ghat, it was being closed for devotees.

Recently TTD – Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has held an emergency meeting and decided to impose restrictions in Tirumala. TTD also took the state and central government’s instructions into consideration and based on this, the TTD will shut down two ghat roads leading to seven hills.

 TTD has already asked the foreigners, NRIs and others not to visit the temple for 28 days after they land in the country from outside, as a precautionary measure. They also asked the devotees to skip their visits to the temple if they showed any symptoms of the coronavirus.
