The 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is going to honor Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth with a special Icon of Golden Jubilee award. This news is confirmed by the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. He also said that this award is a testament to Rajinikanth’s contribution to the world of cinema for the past several decades. Prakash Javadekar announced that French actor Isabelle Huppert will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 50th International Film Festival of India will be held in Goa from 20th – 28th November. And 250 movies from various countries to be screened. Russia will be the partner country at the IFFI festival this year. Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Amitabh Bachchan’s selected seven or eight movies will also be screened at the movie gala. Kabali and Petta star Rajinikanth is overwhelmed with this recognition and he thanked the government for honoring him by sharing a post on Twitter. Lingaa actor said, “I thank the government of India for this prestigious honor.”
Rajinikanth started his filmy career with director K Balachandar’s Apoorva Ragangal which was released in 1975. Though he played a small role in the film but received a lot of applause for his performance. Initially, Rajinikanth essayed the negative roles before becoming a solo hero. His style and unique antics made him the Superstar of Indian Cinema that he is today.
On the work front, Rajinikanth hs wrapped up the shoot of his upcoming flick Darbar in which he is essaying the role of a cop. Currently, the film Darbar is in the post-production stage. Darbar, which has lady superstar Nayantara in the female lead, is directed by AR Murugadoss. The movie will hit the theaters on the occasion of Pongal 2020. After the release of Darbar, Rajinikanth will team up with director Siruthai Siva for a rural entertainer, which will be bankrolled by Sun Pictures.
