BJP leading in 295 seats

Going by the early leads, Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has crossed the halfway mark on its own. According to Official trends, BJP is leading on 295 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party is doing well in most of the states, including three heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Congress is ahead in Punjab and Tamil Nadu, where it joined hands with the DMK.

Exit polls have predicted that BJP is most likely to return to power. A total number of 8,049 candidates were in the race for 542 Lok Sabha seats. Bharatiya Janata Party is leading on all the seats in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh while it has notched a huge lead in states like Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar (in alliance with JDU), Maharashtra (In alliance with Shiv Sena) and Delhi.

The Congress is putting up a fight in Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Bihar. The results are expected to be officially declared only late evening. The seven-phase polls were conducted between 11th April and 19th May in which around 67 % of the nearly 900 million eligible people exercised their franchise to elect 542 members of the Lok Sabha from a total of 8,049 contestants.

Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are among the political figures whose electoral fortunes will be sealed.
