Mahesh Babu has sent a legal notice to the GST Commissioner through his legal team. In this notice, Mahesh Bbau questioned GST Commissioner’s decision to seize his two bank accounts without any prior notice.
The press statement by the legal team of Mahesh Babu read, “The brand ambassador services was brought in the statute by insertion of section 65(105)(zzzzq) with effect from 1-7-2010. The GST Commissionerate Hyderabad has carried out the attachment without notice when several judicial pronouncements on this issue is in favour of the taxpayer and more so when the dispute is pending before the High Court”.
Yesterday, news broke out that Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu’s two bank accounts were seized by the Central Board of Direct Taxes authorities for not paying GST related to brand endorsements during the year 2007-2008. The accounts were seized to retrieve tax of Rs 73.5 lakh which includes the interest and penalty. Hyderabad’s Goods & Service Tax (GST) Commissionerate attached the 2 bank accounts of Mahesh Babu for failing to pay service tax of Rs 18.5 lakh for the financial year 2007-2008. Mahesh Babu’s accounts were seized to retrieve tax of Rs 73.5 lakhs by authorities of the tax department on Thursday in Hyderabad. The actor’s legal team has finally replied to the accusation.
Mahesh Babu was last seen in Bharat Ane Nenu which was directed by Siva Kortala. The film was a political drama, in which Bollywood actress Kiara Advani played the female lead and the film marked her debut in Telugu cinema. The film was turned out blockbuster at the box office. The actor is currently shooting for his upcoming film Maharshi which is being directed by Vamsi Paidipally, in which Allari Naresh will be seen in the role of his friend. Pooja Hegde is playing the female lead in this film, which will arrived at the theaters next year.
